The impact of menopause at work can be profound, affecting not only individual employees but also the overall productivity of an organisation.
Menopause Training Benefits.
Menopause is a natural biological process caused by a decline in hormones. It can occur naturally typically in late 40s or early 50s. However, the decline in hormones can start to occur between 4-10 years before menopause hits. The impact of menopause on employees, and subsequently the workplace is often overlooked. With symptoms ranging from difficulty in concentration, loss of confidence, fatigue and hot flushes, menopause can significantly affect a person's productivity and well-being at work.
Menopause training in the workplace is crucial for several reasons:
Promotes a supportive and inclusive environment where those going through the transition feel comfortable discussing their symptoms and seeking accommodations if needed. This leads to increased employee morale and retention rates.
Educated colleagues and managers are better equipped to understand and empathise with those experiencing menopausal symptoms, fostering a more respectful and empathetic workplace culture.
By providing training on menopause, employers demonstrate their commitment to employee health and well-being, which can improve overall job satisfaction and performance.
“Join us in breaking the silence and stigma surrounding menopause in the workplace. Together, we can create environments where those going through the transition feel valued, supported, and empowered to thrive during this important life transition.”

Menopause - impact on employees.
The Office of National Statistics (ONS) has found that the fastest growing demographic in the workplace are menopausal women.
Around 80% of menopausal women experience symptoms that can interfere with their work, with around 35% experiencing serious symptoms. 33% of the workforce will soon be over 50 and as the retirement age increases, its even more of a reason to understand the impact of this natural phenomenon in the workplace.
Nearly half of women refrain from seeking medical advice, and the majority feel uncomfortable discussing menopause with their line managers.
This reluctance may stem from the prevailing negative perceptions surrounding menopause and the embarrassment some women feel when broaching the topic. Additionally, the lack of accurate information and awareness about the connection between fluctuating hormones during menopause and their symptoms could contribute to this hesitancy.
Nearly a quarter (23%) of women have contemplated leaving their jobs because of the effects of hormonal symptoms in the workplace. Additionally, more than one in ten (14%) are currently making plans to resign.
That is a huge loss of an experienced and valued workforce demographic.
Menopause - impact on your business.
Investing in the short term can help avoid long-term problems such as cost of recruitment, cost of employee relations and cost of absence.
Menopause-related symptoms can contribute to absenteeism and presenteeism, costing businesses each year in lost productivity. Many women feel reluctant to discuss their symptoms at work due to stigma or lack of understanding, leading to feelings of isolation and stress.
As a result 14million working days are lost, which equates to £1.88 billion in lost productivity.
